The coastal port of Liepaja is widely considered to be the home of Latvian rock music, and every summer since 2001 it has celebrated this heritage with a beach festival. The event has grown over the years, now attracting an impressive 45,000 people. There are five stages this year, hosting everything from pop acts to a ‘Salsa Carnival’; according to the Baltic Times ‘the fifth and final stage will play rock and alternative music, including the wildly popular erotic-metal band Iron Wolf.’ Sounds intriguing…
There will also be plenty of non-musical events, including sports such as beach volleyball and beach football (AKA soccer for any US-based readers). There will also be lingerie and bikini fashion shows – Latvia was a major centre of lingerie manufacture during the Soviet era, and a company called Lauma continues the tradition today. There will also be face painting and other entertainment for children.
Tickets cost 10-15Ls, and camping places are available.

Oh i love the sound of a beach party. I have never been to one before. I am particularly intrigued by the fashion show. Sounds like it is a great day out!

Hi Kristina – yes, by all accounts it’s a great party. I haven’t made it there yet myself, but Liepaja is quite a party town at any time of year.

This festival sounds like fun:) The tickets are going on sale somewhere soon for this year…? Anyone knows where and when i can buy the tickets? It would be really nice of you to let me know:)
