‘The island is so heavy with mysticism, it should have sunk by now’

If you are thinking about visiting the Estonian islands of Saaremaa, Hiiumaa and Muhu, or even if you are not, it’s worth taking a look at an article on hitchhiking writing by Joel Alas for the Baltic Times. Despite being described as ‘a hitchhiker’s guide’ it is more of an amusing look at the islands than a detailed practical guide. Equipped with an ancient tent, Joel and his Canadian friend go looking for other people with an appreciation for the old and discarded. They end up at the Juu Jaab music festival, but don’t let on that you heard about it from Joel: ‘It’s the best three days of partying across the whole summer, but don’t tell anyone or else it might get too popular.’
