The Baltic Times reports on the court hearing which dealt with the British citizen who was arrested for urinating close to the Freedom Monument while his friends took photographs. He was not present in court, having been allowed to leave the country, and was fined €64 for a charge of ‘petty hooliganism’. Unsuprisingly, he was found to have been acting under the influence of alcohol.
Meanwhile, there has been good news for the four Portuguese and Spanish tourists who had been detained in Latvia for allegedly damaging the national flag. Although they still face a maximum penalty of six years in prison, they have been allowed to return home while awaiting trial. All seven of the men originally accused of the crime have now left Latvia.
