Visitors to Riga set to travel in Art Nouveau style

Posted on June 15th, 2007 · No comments yet · ShareThis

A new tram service will launch in Riga on 24th June, transporting tourists in an Art Nouveau inspired ‘retro sightseeing streetcar’ between the Central Market and Anatomical Theatre (Kronvalda Boulevard 9). According to an article in Standby News, the tram journey will take 10 minutes if there is little traffic and will cost 3Ls (about €4.50). This is admittedly very expensive compared to a normal tram – which costs 0.20Ls – but remains relatively affordable for most foreign visitors. The short journey time does make me wonder how the staff will find time to ’sell souvenirs’, as Standby News reports will be happening.

If any readers ride the new tram, please do leave a comment.
