The coming week sees Latvia’s 13th International Early Music Festival, with concerts held in Riga and Rundale. It runs from 12th-17th June, with most events taking place in Riga – settings include the the courtyard of the Three Brothers (residential buildings dating from the 15th, 17th and 18th centuries) and the immaculately reconstructed House of Blackheads (formerly occupied by an organisation for unmarried foreign merchants).

Events on the final day take place in the impressive surroundings of Rundale Palace, with seven concerts starting at 1pm and running well into the night – at 22:30 there is a display of ‘authentic Baroque fireworks’ accompanied by music performed by a chamber orchestra.

The festival is family friendly, with events such as fairs and theatrical performances taking place around the concerts. Advance purchase of tickets is recommended.
