This annual event has been running at the Open-Air Ethnographic Museum in Riga since 1971, and this year will take place on 2nd and 3rd June. There is folk music and traditional dancing, but the festival is predominantly a chance to buy local handicrafts. The site itself is one of the tourist highlights of Riga – it is also well worth checking out the museum’s website, which is the most informative which I have come across in Latvia. Note that the clickable map of the musuem doesn’t seem to work on Macs, but there is a scrolling version once you get further into the website which is less convenient but which does work.

This is excellent, I really like the whole blog, and the design! I’d love more info on events a bit further ahead so I can plan my trip with possible events taken in to the tour. And any tips or info about travel with a baby would also be welcome.

I’m glad you like it! The design is courtesy of a theme called Cutline, which I have customised a little (but not much as I need to get to grips with CSS). Expect to see new features introduced over time, such as ‘most popular posts’.
I definitely plan to include more events, and to list them further in advance. The two that I have entered so far are really just an experiment to see how the Upcoming Events list works. The main thing will be getting a balance between just listing them (which is quick) and giving extra detail (which is more useful for readers).
And finally, something on travel with a baby is a really good idea. I’ll aim to post something on this in the near future.
Thanks for dropping by.
